Tension & Conflict. Video Art after 2008

Catalogue design for the exhibition TENSION & CONFLICT VIDEO ART AFTER 2008, held at the MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon.

The exhibition gathered the works by 22 artists from the United States to Latin America, to Europe and the Middle East, who have filmed their personal views on the effects of the great recession, the associated political turmoil and the less visible social consequences of those events.

The MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology created to host national and international exhibitions with contributions by contemporary artists, architects and thinkers constitutes a space for debate, critical thinking and international dialogue, which offers an intense and diverse programme conceived for all audiences and ages.

The design solution for the book adopts a very straightforward approach, using a single typeface – Usual, by Rui Abreu – and a regular grid, used in a very varied way, according to the contents of the book. The cover image frees the upper edge for the Museum’s logo, placed within in a white strip that repeats on all pages of the book. This effect limits and circumscribes the space for the presentation of the projects on display, which the layout individualizes, creating sometimes complementary, sometimes conflicting chromatic relations.
